#37 Backyard Wisdom

As Is What Was is a collection of poems created with no thought at all. None. There is no control over grammar, sound, rhythm, idea, or anything really. Why? I thought it would be fun. Is it insane? Absolutely.

Backyard wisdom

Was always drenched in cold sweats

And more bets

Lighter fluid, beer

And dreams of corvettes

But they started driving hondas

In the canyon

In search of disarrayed kings

And living room gods

So they could sit on carpets

And know what

Truth was

Yet they stuck through

Stuck tough

And they’re a little older now

A little more rough

In the face

But that’s okay

They were never ones for

The clean cut looks

So they’re standing out here

And they’ve got what they asked for

And they finally got their passports

And they know what the cost was

And they know what inflation is

And they know what mortgage is too

And that’s a lot of money flowing out

So now they’re chilling in their back gardens

Still guzzling beer

Less lighter fluid now

And a couple more nostalgic tears

See the sun and the paint don’t quite dry and try

Like they used to
