Mother tongue

This poem was originally published on 3 May 2017.

Mumma,
What are they saying,
When they’re saying?
I know there is meaning,
But my ears,
Cannot seek it.

Mumma,
How are they saying,
What they’re saying?
How do their tongues,
Twist the letters,
On the air,
They’re exhaling?

Mumma,
Why are they saying,
What they’re saying?
They tell me it’s my tongue,
But you and I,
Never speak it.
