The Hidden

This poem was originally published on 9 December 2012. It appears in my debut anthology Wildflower Sea available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Kobo Books.

Betwixt the earth and sky
As I in the shadows lie
In solemn solitude with a keen gaze
See through each person’s self defined haze

The falseness that each portrays
To keep their feelings from the light of day
And from prying eyes
Holding their stories beneath cold sighs

Like a mere silhouette so sad
In a fake dress of happiness - fully clad
A zipper hidden so discreetly
That not a soul knows as it is covered so neatly

To fit in is all that they wish to do
To form a new skin no one can see through
And be just the same as the others around
Not to be different or be the one to stand out

For humane are we all
Humane as we rise and humane as we fall
To be scared and to fear the society we live in
Is nothing new - the point is many give in

So betwixt the earth and sky
As I in the shadows lie
In solemn solitude with a keen gaze
See though each person’s self defined haze
And see all that they hide
